Attractions

When visiting the Urana Shire it is well worth taking some time to stop and see what our region has to offer.  Each of the towns and villages has particular points of interest and attractions which are well worth visiting.

Morundah

Morundah is just off the Newell Highway between Narrandera and Jerilderie where you can visit the Paradise Palladium Theatre.  The theatre achieved fame as the cultural capital of the Riverina following the presentation of several famous operas by Oz Opera throughout the years.

Also stop for a taste tempting experience at the Morundah Hotel restaurant which received praise in the “Epicure” section of the Melbourne Age and is a ‘must do’ when visiting.
To make a booking, contact David Fahey at the Morundah Hotel on (02) 6959 7414 or fax (02) 6959 7485.

Oaklands

Visit a fascinating collection of vintage machinery when in Oaklands at the Vintage Machinery Museum and contemplate the life and times of the early settlers to the district and the many hardships they endured.  Admission is free to this large historical collection.
Further details are available from Peter Kerr by phone on (02) 6035 4243

While in Oaklands, take the opportunity to have a break in Coronation Park and enjoy the mural artwork on display.   The mural was a joint project between the NSW Ministry for the Arts and the Shire Council and depicts a snapshot of activities from earlier times up to the present day.

The “Tractor on the Pole” can be seen at the entrance to Victoria Park and was erected by the Urana Vintage Machinery Group as a reminder of the role the tractor played in developing the Southern Riverina.  Vintage machinery enthusiasts gather each October in Urana from around the country for the annual Tractor Pull competition, held in conjunction with the Urana Hospital Auxiliary Fete.
