 Waste Management - Rubbish Collection
A household rubbish collection service is provided to residents of each of the towns and villages throughout the Shire on a weekly basis.
Collection times vary for each of the towns but generally commence in Oaklands on Tuesday evening and progressively work throughout the Shire and are completed Wednesday morning.
Residents of the Shire are provided with a 240 litre wheelie bin which will be emptied by Council staff weekly. Residents are charged an annual fee for this service.
Additional domestic waste disposal
Domestic waste disposal facilities are also available at Urana and Oaklands and are open two half days per week.
The centres are open:
- Urana
- Friday 12 noon to 5.00 pm
- Sunday 11.00am to 4.00 pm.
The Urana Waste Disposal Centre is located 5km from Urana on the Boree Creek Rd.
- Oaklands
- Tuesday 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm
- Sunday 8.00am to 12 noon
The Oaklands Waste disposal Centre is located 5km north of Oaklands on Maxwelton Rd.

Mobile Garbage Bins (MGB)
Residents using the domestic waste collection service are requested toi note that only mobile garbage bins stamped Urana Shire Council will be emptied by the Garbage Contractor.
- Residents are reminded that all garbage is to be placed in lidded bins.
- All big bins are to be put out the night before collection.
- Bins are to be placed with the handle to the kerb and lid facing the road.
- If you have a MGB from another area it will not be serviced.
- You may purchase a replacement bin from the Council.
Note: that the maximum lifting capacity on the truck is between 65 - 70kg. Also please note that bins with loads heavier than the limitation will not be collected.

Village Green Waste - Collection Sites
Residents are reminded that only clean green waste material is permitted to be deposited at the village green waste collection sites.
Green waste material consists only of:
- Tree loppings
- Prunings
- Grass Clippings
All other material is not green waste. This includes wooden building products. Failure of residents to comply with these conditions may result in fines to offenders and the potential closure of this community service.
