AN INVITATION TO ALL RESIDENTS
You are invited to contribute towards the compilation of family histories/connections with Urana and district.
The Urana Historical and Arts Committee are currently researching what histories etc. are held at the Museum, and would greatly appreciate your assistance and contribution, especially from more recent connections.
The following questions, complied by the curator of the Riverina Museum, are designed to assist you, however they are not prescriptive.
History of Properties/Families in Urana, and their relationship with the town
Q1. Family names - who settled on the property - town/district - their names in full.
Q2. Where did they come from, and how did they end up in Urana?
Q3. Why did they choose to settle in Urana?
Q4. Any specific incidents that happened to them when they came to Urana - is there any written evidence (e.g. family postcards, letters or diaries) which reveal what their opinion of the place was - first impressions?
Q5. Property names - where did they settle?
Q6. What did they contribute to the community - in business, service (e.g. church, freemasons, hospital committees, and other) - what has been their legacy?
Q7. Are descendants of these families still in Urana today?
Family photographs and first-hand accounts (as mentioned before, diaries, letters, etc) would be good things to acquire from locals. Also, focus on what makes Urana distinct from other towns in the Riverina - what history was made in Urana, or did the town have any specific industries or products that were made there, and how did the families that settle there contribute to this?
What does Urana have to show for these early families?
*** Please give completed histories to Jenny Hearn, Christine Mansell or Kath Alexander.
